Wishlist Books

Dec 15, 2014

During the holidays, I taking a trip to the bookstore to check out new magazines and books. It's great for inspiration and motivation at a time when things are rushed and stressful. This past weekend, I took some time to visit Barnes and Noble to see what they had in stock.

I have a routine when I go to the book store. I go straight to the magazines and pick out the ones that look good then I hit the books. I find a good spot to sit, I spread out, get comfy and let the fun begin. I went through tons of mags and books filled with lots of pretty photos, beautiful book binding, colorful type and intriguing layouts. Books are great Christmas gifts. I wanted to share some of my favorites as gifts this year.

Pantone Color of the Year

Dec 8, 2014

If you are a designer, creative, or color geek like me then you have been biting your nails to see what the new color of the year will be. The announcement has been made, Marsala is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2015. Pantone's description of Marsala: "A naturally robust and earthy wine red, Marsala enriches our minds, bodies and souls."

I have a little confession, I was not a fan of the 2015 color selection at first. After reading the description of Marsala, it's actually growing on me. The site also talks about the versatility of 2015 color of the year. Here are some of the points that gives us a better picture of how to use Marsala.
"Equally appealing to men and women, Marsala is a stirring and flavorful shade for apparel and accessories, one that encourages color creativity and experimentation."
"Flattering against many skin tones, sultry and subtle Marsala is a great go-to color for beauty, providing enormous highlight for the cheek, and a captivating pop of color for nails, shadows lips and hair."
"Dramatic and at the same time grounding, the rich and full-bodied red-brown Marsala brings color warmth into home interiors."
"An earthy shade with a bit of sophistication, texture is the story in print and packaging. A matte finish highlights Marsala’s organic nature while adding a sheen conveys a completely different message of glamour and luxury."

I will embrace Marsala and hope to find many uses for it. I put together a color inspiration board to get my creative juices flowing. What amazing things will you create in 2015 with Marsala?

All Dots

Nov 29, 2014

Starbucks has unveiled the 2014 Dot Collection into their retail and online stores. I can honestly say I look forward to seeing new designs for packaging and displays in Starbucks stores every season. Starbucks is a leader in creating an entire customer retail experience. For the holidays, the green dot was the inspiration for the 2014 drinkware collection. There are 100 mugs and tumblers that sell for under $20. (not a bad price)

I am so inspired by this design collection. I love the all colors, patterns and textures on each cup. According to Starbucks, the designers used many techniques like spray paint, watercolors, cut paper, markers, oils, and photographs to create this beautiful drinkware. Each artist has a story about their designs. What a great way to collaborate with designers to create a fun holiday product. You can find the entire collection on the Starbucks online store. Local stores have a select assortment. So cheers, drink up and start your own dot collection.

During this time of the year colrs are saturated in the most beautiful hues. The rich greens, browns, and creams are some of my favorites. Every color combination seems to works in harmony when used for home decor, tablescapes or floral arrangements. It must be that feeling of harvest that inspires us to create such beautiful settings for the holidays. I have created some color combos that I hope will inspired you. Have fun and enjoy your holiday celebrations.
